LISTEN: Whyte House Family Devotions: A Prayer for the Family, the Church, the Nation and the World #346 (Wednesday, May 2, 2018): “God Is in Nature,” by Billy Graham

My family and I have had morning devotions, or family altar as some people call it, every day ever since my wife, Meriqua, and I were married 30 years ago. We have prayed and read the Bible together as well as other devotional books as a family, and it is the only reason why this family has stayed together, and the only reason why God has blessed our family and used our family in ministry all of these years. We read Ephesians 5 and 6 every morning as it relates to the role of each member of the family and how that we need to put on the whole armor of God to fight against the devil who is seeking to destroy our family and all Christian families, churches, and Christians. So, now after 30 years of doing this in our home, we are opening this up to others who don’t have a family to pray with, who don’t have a spouse, or who are single by choice, and to encourage all families who are still intact to go back to the family altar and have devotions together every morning. In these devotions, you may hear me deal with a temptation I’m facing in my life, you may hear me rebuke my wife about not doing what she should be doing, or you may hear me get on one of my children’s cases about something they’re doing. Don’t be shocked; this is real life. Continue reading

Our Father which art in Heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name,
Thy Kingdom come,
Thy Will be done in earth, as it is in Heaven.

EPHESIANS 6:10-11

10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

Stephen J. Cole writes in his commentary on this passage: “Many have suggested that Paul got the idea of putting on the full armor of God from the Roman soldier that was chained to him as he dictated this letter. That may be, but it also may be that he was meditating on Isaiah 11:5, which says of the Lord, ‘Righteousness will be the belt about His loins, and faithfulness the belt about His waist.’ Or, Isaiah 59:17 which says, “’e put on righteousness like a breastplate, and a helmet of salvation on His head.’ The armor is just a graphic way of saying what Paul says in Romans 13:14: ‘But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts.’ In other words, Christ Himself is our armor. He is the belt of truth. He is our breastplate of righteousness. He is the gospel of peace that we stand on. He is the shield of our faith. He is our helmet of salvation. He is our sword, the word of God. He is our full armor, capable of protecting us from every onslaught of the devil.”

DEVOTIONAL PASSAGE: Psalm 135:5-14

5 For I know that the Lord is great, and that our Lord is above all gods.

6 Whatsoever the Lord pleased, that did he in heaven, and in earth, in the seas, and all deep places.

7 He causeth the vapours to ascend from the ends of the earth; he maketh lightnings for the rain; he bringeth the wind out of his treasuries.

8 Who smote the firstborn of Egypt, both of man and beast.

9 Who sent tokens and wonders into the midst of thee, O Egypt, upon Pharaoh, and upon all his servants.

10 Who smote great nations, and slew mighty kings;

11 Sihon king of the Amorites, and Og king of Bashan, and all the kingdoms of Canaan:

12 And gave their land for an heritage, an heritage unto Israel his people.

13 Thy name, O Lord, endureth for ever; and thy memorial, O Lord, throughout all generations.

14 For the Lord will judge his people, and he will repent himself concerning his servants.

Regarding this passage, Matthew Henry writes: “God is, and will be always, the same to his church, a gracious, faithful, wonder-working God. And his church is, and will be, the same to him, a thankful, praising people: thus his name endures for ever. He will return in ways of mercy to them, and will delight to do them good.”

DEVOTIONAL READING: “Questioning,” by Billy Graham

Psalm 51:12 says, “Restore to me again the joy of your salvation, and make me willing to obey you.”

“It is not unusual for persons in their early twenties to defect from their early teaching. The reasons are many. Perhaps their exposure to unbelief ‘took’ better than their exposure to belief. This is often the case, for the Bible says, ‘The heart of man is deceitful above all things.’

“The human heart is as prepared by sin to accept unbelief as faith. Some person they regard highly has undoubtedly influenced their thinking; and for the time being they look on their early training as ‘bunk.’ As someone has said, ‘A little learning may take a man away from God, but full understanding will bring him back.’

“Some of the staunchest Christians I know are people who had periods in their life when they questioned the Bible, Christ, and God. But as they continued to examine the matter, there was overwhelming evidence that only ‘the fool hath said in his heart, There is no God.’”

– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

Now, if you do not know Jesus Christ as your Savior, allow me to show you how you can place your faith and trust in Him for Salvation from sin and Hell.

First, accept the fact that you are a sinner, and that you have broken God’s law. The Bible says in Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”

Second, accept the fact that there is a penalty for sin. The Bible states in Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death…”

Third, accept the fact that you are on the road to hell. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 10:28: “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.”

Now that is bad news, but here’s the good news. Jesus Christ said in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will.

Romans 10:9 & 13 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved… For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

If you believe that Jesus Christ died on the Cross for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead, and you want to trust Him for your Salvation today, please pray with me this simple prayer: Holy Father God, I realize that I am a sinner and that I have done some bad things in my life. I am sorry for my sins, and today I choose to turn from my sins. For Jesus Christ sake, please forgive me of my sins. I believe with all of my heart that Jesus Christ died for me, was buried, and rose again. I trust Jesus Christ as my Savior and I choose to follow Him as Lord from this day forward. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart and save my soul and change my life today. Amen.

If you just trusted Jesus Christ as your Saviour, and you prayed that prayer and meant it from your heart, I declare to you that based upon the Word of God, you are now saved from Hell and you are on your way to Heaven. Welcome to the family of God! I want to congratulate you on doing the most important thing in life and that is receiving Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour. For more information to help you grow in your newfound faith in Christ, go to Gospel Light Society.com and read “What To Do After You Enter Through the Door”. Jesus Christ said in John 10:9, “I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.”

Until next time, May the Lord Bless You!

Honoring and remembering God, Jesus Christ, and their servant Billy Graham by preaching an adaptation of one of his powerful messages.

TEXT: Matthew 24:1-8:

1 And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple.

2 And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.

3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?

4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.

5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.

6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.

7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.

8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.

——

Jesus gave His disciples several signs which would inform them that the time of His Second Coming was near. As we look at our world today, it appears that these signs are playing out all around us. The first sign is the revival of religion. Despite the atheism and humanism of the so-called Enlightenment, when we look at the world today, people everywhere are turning to religion and religious teachers for guidance. The second sign that we see in the world today is wars and rumors of wars.

Now, Jesus gave a third sign as well: He said, “And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.” How much hatred there is in the world today! Much of this hatred seems to involve mental problems. When has there been a moment in history when the American people had such prosperity, and yet there are so many mental breakdowns? Psychiatry is busy today in such a frantic effort to patch up our jangled nerves that I am told psychiatrists are going to each other for help.

Do you know how many chronic alcoholics we have in America? We have five million! Think of it, five million chronic alcoholics in America. Do you know how many sleeping pills we take every night? Twenty-one million. Twenty-one million sleeping pills a night to put us to sleep. I don’t know how many wake-up pills we use to get us up. How many people are taking tablets and pills just to dull them from the realities of life?

Never before in history has there been a nation that had so much and is so bored with life. Walter Reuther says that he wants to bring about a four-and-a-half day week. Well, that sounds fine. But I am going to ask you: What in the world are we going to do with our leisure time? If we are going to invest it for the kingdom of God, let us have it. But if we are going to give it to the devil, let us work six days a week.

Give man more time to himself, and all he will do is continue in offending, betraying, and hurting his fellow man. Look at the tragic crime afflicting our cities. Does it not appear to be increasing? This is what Jesus said would happen before He returns. He knew that as long as human nature was separated from God, people would be separated and at enmity with each other, and it would get worse and worse until the end of time. Are you ready for the end?

The only way you can be ready for the end is through Jesus Christ, through placing your faith and trust in Him and Him alone. If you do not know Jesus Christ as your Savior, you are not ready for His Second Coming. Allow me to show you how you can receive Christ as Savior today.

Jesus Christ said in Matthew 10:28: “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” Also, the Bible states in Revelation 21:8: “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

We have prayed and read the Bible together as well as other devotional books as a family, and it is the only reason why this family has stayed together, and the only reason why God has blessed our family and used our family in ministry all of these years. RECITE: THE NEW NICENE CREED

We believe in one God,
the Father almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all things visible and invisible.
And in one Lord Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
begotten from the Father before all ages,
God from God,
Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made;
of the same essence as the Father.

Through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation
he came down from heaven;
he became incarnate by the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary,
and was made human.

He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered, bled, died, and was buried.
The third day he rose again, according to the Scriptures.
He was seen alive by Mary Magdalene and the other women, the disciples and over 500 other brethren;
He ascended to heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again with glory
to judge the living and the dead.
His kingdom will never end.

And we believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Lord, the giver of life.
He proceeds from the Father and the Son,
and with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified.
He spoke through the prophets.

We believe in one holy universal and apostolic church.
We affirm one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look forward to the resurrection of the dead,
and to life in the world to come. Amen.

EPHESIANS 6:10-11

10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

Stephen J. Cole writes in his commentary on this passage: “Standing firm against the enemy is the result of putting on God’s full armor. ‘Stand’ is a key word in this section. Paul repeats it in verses 11, 13, and 14. It’s a military term for holding on to a position that is under attack. It implies the courage to hold your ground because of your allegiance to King Jesus, even when others may be fleeing from the battle because the enemy seems so strong. We rely on God’s strength and use His armor, but we must take the initiative to put on the armor and stand firm in the battle because we love Jesus. It’s not a matter of ‘letting go and letting God,’where you are passive and God does it all. Nor is it a matter of gritting your teeth and doing it yourself, with occasional assistance from God. Rather, it is a blending of His power and our striving. As Paul puts it, ‘For this purpose also I labor, striving according to His power, which mightily works within me.'”

DEVOTIONAL PASSAGE: Psalm 135:1-4

1 Praise ye the Lord. Praise ye the name of the Lord; praise him, O ye servants of the Lord.

2 Ye that stand in the house of the Lord, in the courts of the house of our God.

3 Praise the Lord; for the Lord is good: sing praises unto his name; for it is pleasant.

4 For the Lord hath chosen Jacob unto himself, and Israel for his peculiar treasure.

Regarding this passage, Matthew Henry writes: “The matter of praise is the blessing of grace flowing from the everlasting love of God. The name of God as a covenant God and Father in Christ, blessing us with all spiritual blessings in him, is to be loved and praised. The Lord chose a people to himself, that they might be unto him for a name and a praise. If they do not praise him for this distinguishing favour, they are the most unworthy and ungrateful of all people.”

DEVOTIONAL READING: “The Unpayable Debt,” by Billy Graham

Galatians 1:4 says, “He gave himself for our sins…”

“Years ago King Charles V was loaned a large sum of money by a merchant in Antwerp. The note came due, but the king was bankrupt and unable to pay. The merchant gave a great banquet for the King. When all the guests were seated and before the food was brought in, the merchant had a large platter placed on the table and a fire lighted on it. Then, taking the note with details of the debt out of his pocket, he held it in the flames until it was burned to ashes. The king threw his arms around his benefactor and wept. Just so, we have been mortgaged to God. The debt was due, but we were unable to pay. Two thousand years ago God invited the world to the Gospel feast, and in the agonies of the cross, God held your sins and mine until every last vestige of our guilt was consumed.”

TEXT: John 3:1-7:

1 There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:

2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.

3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born?

5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

———-

The answer that Jesus gave Nicodemus is the answer to all the world’s problems: “Ye must be born again.” Being born again is the necessary change if humanity is to be saved. Why is there such a change when one is born again? It is because you are an eternal soul, not just a body and a mind. Thus, you will never find inward joy, peace, forgiveness, or a sense of security with God until your soul has been satisfied. And your soul cannot be satisfied apart from God.

Now, how would the satisfying of men’s souls affect world affairs? How can that solve the problems of the world? Let me ask you this: Do you see any solution to the problems of the world during the next hundred years if we keep going the way we’re going? How many of you would agree with me when I tell you that as long as men lie and hate and cheat, as long as there is prejudice and greed in the world, there is the possibility that at a certain point, somewhere out there, some madman will push a button and make the whole world his funeral pyre? Don’t you think Hitler would have done it in his last days if he had had the power?

All right then. Now, suppose we could give the whole world an injection of love instead of hate. Suppose we could find a serum to give every man, woman, and child that would change them overnight. So you know any of serum like that? It is certainly not education alone, because it was the educated in the civilized nations who fought it out in World War II. Do you know any answer? Can you name one thing, that if given to all of humanity, would change the world overnight?

There is one answer to that question. You may not accept it; that is your privilege. But I believe it is THE answer. Human nature can be transformed through faith in Jesus Christ. Your life can be transformed through Jesus. If enough people receive Christ and have their lives transformed by His power, I believe it would make an impact on world affairs.

Have you let Christ transform your life? Have you been born again? Jesus is the answer. Will your receive Him today?

If you do not know Jesus Christ as your Savior, allow me to show you how you can place your faith and trust in Him for Salvation from sin and Hell.

First, accept the fact that you are a sinner, and that you have broken God’s law. The Bible says in Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”

Third, accept the fact that you are on the road to hell.
